rural

Here in our small community, water is free. As in- it is free. There are no monthly bills to pay. Residents in urban areas must be saying, “Lucky you!” Yeah… Maybe… The problem with this setting, though, is that when water gets scarce- as it already has, due to this longish dry spell which we’ve had during these last few months- war erupts. Neighbors quarrel with each other. Accusations, of people monopolizing the few precious trickles, get hurled. Seldom is that day when no word about ‘somebody done wrong with the water’ gets heard.

Then last night, at around midnight, it rained. Jeez…..it rained! The raindrops came a-falling… For more than an hour, it rained… There must have been a collective sigh of relief for the folks. Even the plants and the animals, I’m sure would have been singing- with the branches and the leaves gaily swaying. Why, even this morning, the birds have added a livelier tune to their chirps. For those who remember the 10, 20, 30 rhymes children use to imitate the birds’ songs, a different note was added- making it last to 40. I swear! He he he…

The first rainfall really does create a new positive outlook in everyone’s mind. Now, if only global warming…Nooope. I am not allowing that dire threat to humanity ruin this joyous feeling. I am going to savor this moment while it lasts.

Hi there,
Summer is fast approaching so I'm sure there will be more "neighborly" fights he he. Down here, water is no problem but it is really getting hot :-(

yo bill! yeah, summer is definitely just around the corner. we could only hope that there'll be more pleasant surprises like that rainfall the other night- if only to lessen the intensity of 'em fights.:-)

I love the rain!!! I've always enjoyed sleeping while the rain just taps on our roof. Yes, enjoy the feeling while it lasts...kayni

hello kayni,

yup. rain gives each of us something to enjoy. here's hoping that rain showers will accompany your travel home to the philippines (i read about the trip from bill's blog and yours, too), especially if you'll be arriving during that time when the heat gets oppressive.

i'll join bill in greeting you an advanced happy homecoming.:-)

Where is this community you mentioned if you don't mind? A friend's relative in Brookside has this natural creek (ub-bog) in their backyard. They made a business from out of this selling bottled water. Also, another friend at Camp Seven has same natural resources but greed never entered his mind. Personally, if I'm blessed with a backyard like those two, would share it w/neighbors. Well, that's just me...

hi true blue,
i was talking about our place here in sagada. that first rainfall we've had during this year made me really joyful.:-)

you must be a very goodhearted man mr. true blue. here's wishing that water springs out from your backyard so you can share it with your neighbours. it's really sad how the old virtues of sharing, or just the plain spirit of community has been almost replaced with materialism.

anyway, cheers!
